MIDDLE SCHOOLERS LEARN THE PLAY OF PICKLEBALL
White Squirrel Pickleball Association Holds Clinics at Richland County Middle School
OLNEY, ILL -- On Monday May 10th and Tuesday May 11th the White Squirrel Pickleball Association (WSPA) held six outdoor clinics for the Richland County Middle School to enhance Pickleball within the school's physical fitness programs. Approximately 360+ Richland County Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th grade students received rules and instructions for safe play, demonstration of serving the ball, strategies for returning the serve, examples of scoring and overall strategies of the game of Pickleball.
A total of six clinics were led by Richland County High School Coach and WSPA Vice-President Chuck Synder who was assisted by four other WSPA experienced players. Each clinic started with approximately 60 students grouped around one Pickleball Court. After this initial group briefing, the students we’re broken into 5 equal groups on the schools existing tennis courts for the playing of games guided by an experienced WSPA player.
The White Squirrel Pickleball Association is a local organization in Richland County seeking to advance the game of pickleball in our community by providing a safe environment and resources which promotes fun, health, exercise, and social interaction for all. WSPA is currently leading a campaign to build dedicated Pickleball Courts in Olney to promote the recreational and health benefits of the sport of Pickleball throughout Richland and surrounding counties.
